RCS Mathematics Department

Roxboro Community School teaches students in an active, social, and creative model of learning that involves inquiry and discovery. The school offers math courses at many ability levels: College Prep, Honors and Advanced Placement. The curriculum at Roxboro Community School is based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, and we offer students many opportunities for increased pace, in-depth study, and enrichment.

The high school mathematics course of study provides a rigorous sequence of skills and concepts that will prepare students for post secondary education and work in the 21st century. In middle school, the strands (number and operations, algebra, measurements, geometry, statistics) are taught. As students progress through high school, they will continue working in the strands started in middle school using those skills and concepts as a foundation for the individual courses taken at the high school level.

RCS offers Algebra 1, College Prep Geometry, Honors Geometry, College Prep Algebra 2, Honors Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Advanced Function and Modeling and AP Calculus AB.

Students who have solid study habits will find the math courses to be appropriate. Since we assign homework every evening (30 minutes per night in most courses and 30-60 minutes per night in Advanced Placement courses), students who possess the discipline to complete homework every evening and to arrive prepared for each class the following day will do well at RCS.
